Welcome to my (mostly) research page!

Hi! I am Fin. I recently defended my Ph.D. dissertation in Electrical Engineering at NC State under Prof. Paul D. Franzon. My research develops resource-aware machine-learning methods that use structured representations to solve problems in electronic design automation, scientific computing, and biomedical imaging.

I recently completed an electrical engineering co-op at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where I worked on methods for brain mapping, 3D ultrasound reconstruction, and mobile medical-imaging systems. During my Ph.D., I also produced research with labs across NC State, Harvard, and MIT.

I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where I was a Terry Foundation Scholar. I later received the Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship and contributed to research recognized with best-paper awards. My Google Scholar is not always up to date, so please consult my CV for my complete publication record.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing soccer. My full first name is “Shafin,” which in Arabic means “medical doctor.” My parents really wanted me to become a physician. I also care deeply about supporting neurodivergent people. If you need help navigating a life situation, please feel free to reach out!
